I think if I read this 3-4 years ago I would have been much more connected to the narrative that was being built poem by poem. I found some of them to be very profound, and those were the poems that stuck with me. However, those were the minority of the work as a whole. I think all of the poems are lovely in their own right, but a lot of them felt like emotions that I don’t completely connect with anymore, and even the memory of those emotions didn’t click with the words I was reading. I also think that this style of poetry loses some of its impact based on the limits of its aesthetic. Again, I think if I read this 3-4 years ago, when this was the mindset I was in, and the style of poems that I read I would have enjoyed and connected with it all much much more. ( )

As someone who knows very little, if anything at all, about poetry, I loved the simplicity of this book. I've wanted to get into poetry for a while now, but glances at most poetry books are intimidating. I hardly remember anything at all from the poetry units in English class.

Lili's poems felt more like journal or diary entries, which gave it a more raw, emotional feel. I felt like I could relate pretty well, which I think made the book even better; relating to the topics or a character always make the book more enjoyable for me.

Some poems did feel a bit weak, but I wouldn't necessarily say they were bad. Even so, I genuinely enjoyed this book. I've always loved Lili, and this only made me love her more. If you don't know much about poetry but would like to get into it, I suggest giving this one a read. ( )
