Crochet is not just about ponchos and scarves anymore: it’s about amigurumi, a hip new craft trend! These Japanese-inspired dolls have motivated crocheters everywhere to grab their hooks and create collections of irresistibly funky-cute creatures. Elisabeth Doherty, one of today’s hottest amigurumi designers, is here to show readers how they, too, can get in on the fun. She explains basic and advanced stitches; shows how to make the critters’ forms by crocheting in the round; gives advice on yarns and stuffing; and offers tips on embroidering facial features and embellishments. Start with an easy cupcake, move on to a palm-sized mouse, and work up to the more challenging and spectacular projects, like a punk rock bunny or a beatnik kitty--complete with black turtleneck, beret, and goatee.… (meer)

I have been really happy with this book. I am a fairly experienced crocheter. I found the instructions clear and easy to follow. My only complaint is not with the book at all, but with crocheting amigurumi in general...crocheting tight enough to create an item that can be stuffed is a bit hard on my hands and wrists. I confess a touch of perfectionism and so I want my amigurumi to be tight and strong with no stuffing peeking out. This definitely makes the process a bit "fussy" and slower than my usual crochet speed. ( )

I have made some of the super happy crochet cute items in this book...and I really like them (except that my monkey had legs that were two different lengths. Not a fault of the book, however, but my own carelessness!).

I have been crocheting for a very long time, both following patterns and making my own stuff, and I found the instructions in this book pretty easy to follow for the most part. I love some of the details on the dolls, like the little toes. And the hamburger was fun and easy and quick to whip up. This is definitely a fun book and one that will be staying on my bookshelf. ( )

This book is as colorful and cute as it's title. The projects progress from the easiest to the most complex. If you want to learn how to create amigurumi, if you want really cute patterns, if you just want to learn somthing new, this book is for you. ( )

I recently purchased this book and I love it! The designs are adorable, and the instructions are fantastic. I just finished crocheting hep cat, and so far everyone thinks he's the cutest thing in the world. A friend crocheted the Strawberry Girl and I'm smitten with her as well. I haven't crocheted in years, but the instructions and the introduction, along with diagrams, really brought it all back for me. I can see myself making most of the projects in this book.
