That, at least, was what I thought I was going to get based on the book description, reviews, and book cover. And it was, in a way, like that. Except that the cover lies. Though I didn't immediately realize since the main character becomes the title of the book - a Cinnamon Bun. That's right, they became bread with icing on them (heh, no). No, what I mean is that a "pop-up" occurs, that tells them that they have a new class - the Cinnamon Bun class. This occurred immediately after arriving in the new world, and they hadn't looked at a mirror or anything, yet.
So, the cover of the book, the name of the book, etc., made me think they'll become a bun. You know, a bunny.
But no. They go from being a human to being . . . . a human. darn.
Right, so, you know how I mentioned that prior book? The one I loved and didn't want to end? It starred someone who was 19 years old in the book. I don't think I mentioned that before, in the book or anywhere else. Mostly because that age never really played a part in the book. Didn't matter that they were, technically, still a teenager. I mention all of this because the main character in this book is 16.
And they really seem to be sixteen here, as in a teenager. They were a mix of naive and . . . less than naive. But let's move beyond that. Also beyond comparing this book and the prior.
So - a young woman of 16 is in the middle of a boring class, I believe it was a Math class. A somewhat loud noise occurs, but apparently, only Broccoli Bunch hears the noise (and yes the main 16 year old female human character is named . . . Broccoli Bunch; and yes her parents were/are druggy hippies - at least Broccoli calls them that). Then some kind of "thing" appears, a box?, and it asks if Broccoli wants an adventure. And, so, naturally, Broccoli choices yes. Whereupon she is taken from Earth and moved to a fantasy world.
Whereupon events unfolded during which Broccoli was very bubbly and skiply and stuff, and deeply desirous of finding friends with any and everything - including skeletons, ghosts, and other random things found in her path.
Right, so, the book wasn't what I was hoping for, wasn't what I was expecting, etc. etc. and I yet I kept getting pulled into the story. Somewhere along the way, not sure where, I ended up rather enjoying the book. To the point that, when the book ended, I just continued on with reading book 2 in the series.
