The Rarkyn’s Familiar came out on the 19th of April and was published by 510. It was published by The Parliament House and is the authors debut novel! The book is young adult dark fantasy and monster fiction book.

If you’re a fan of books like Mistborn, and The Witcher this book is for you! Like those, The Rarkyn’s familiar is not a light read, but one that you need to read slowly to really absorb. I don’t mean that it’s boring though. It’s a great book!

Lyss has her own reasons for training and wanting revenge; they keep her going but she’s not a cruel person and has formed meaningful relationships with those around her. When she and the rarkyn, who is someone I would die for, go on their journey to separate their link, they’re both able to be gentle with each other despite what has happened to them.

Excellent book for fantasy readers. Grabbed my attention from the first page and held it for the entire book. Despite the fact that the characters are 14 years old this is not really a ya book. There is much violence, blood and death. The story focuses on Lyss, a young girl, orphaned and magicless, taken in by a family. She learns the sword dance to get revenge on the Order which killed her father. Skaar is the other half of the story, a wild magical creature , captured by a magician who drank his blood for the power it gave. A landslide buried the magician and Skaar is left chained and caged to starve to death. Lyss's companions find Skaar and despite fearing him, they resolve to set him free. During this attempt, Lyss and Skaar bond. She can now share his magic, but with hate and fear between them , can they survive to untangle this magic?
