The story stars Sam McAuley a gardener, and Bo Novak, who is living temporarily next door. He’s minding the animal rehabilitation center his sister runs while she’s away. This book is told in third person through both MC’s povs. This is a low-key story without much angst. It’s character driven and tells the developing relationship between Sam and Bo. I enjoyed the plot line; I thought it was a cute idea. The one thing I noticed right away was how the story felt planned. I understand that it’s taught that a book has to follow certain plot-points, with a crisis, resolution, etc, but this book felt over-planned, which made it predictable. The other issue was that during the monologue, it felt like the characters were telling us what was happening. I want to feel what is happening, but I didn’t get that so I couldn’t delve into the story like I wanted to. Also, there was a bit too much description, and I’m a person who happens to love description. Sam has a bit of a secret, but it’s easily figured out. Bo has many issues, but I found his flaws to be realistic, which made him one of the best things about this book. Some readers might find him too flawed, but I think the author did a good job in showing that people do have insecurities and may not ever get over them, and that it’s okay to remain flawed and not have everything fixed because a person found a partner. I enjoyed the plot, and Bo, but didn’t care for the telling and overuse of description. I give As Big as the Sky, 3 Stars. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
