I received this book for free through LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program. My children loved this one just as much as the first in the series. The vocabulary was a bit simpler, but the illustrations were just as lovely, and the characters were just as engaging. We wait in hopeful anticipation for the rest of the series.

A cute story with beautiful illustrations. Auggie gets to work to help another batch of magical critters in this book (#2 in the Fabled Stables series.) Although these new creatures, the tattle-tails, initially bother the community, Auggie finds a way to not only ignore the tattling, but also to help a critter that can't speak for itself. A lovely underlying message in a whimsical story that works well as a read-aloud or read along, but is also not too intimidating for early readers to enjoy independently. ( )

The second Fabled Stables tales is a charming allegory about gossip and tattling which would be a useful tool for creating discussions about such matters, for both groups and individual children. The writing and structure are both solid but the illustrations, while cute enough, don't flesh out the story significantly.
