Mostly fluff. Modeled after Big Two events, only even for an avid Image Comics reader most of the mentioned stuff is too obscure to warrant much enthusiasm. The book overpromises and underdelivers, even going so far as to tease a Superman appearance (which was obviously never going to happen), only to eventually reveal it was Madman. Has Madman ever been relevant? Give me Samaritan or Supreme, not a third rate knock-off. (although to be fair there is a cool splash page involving a yoyo)

The art is serviceable but nothing to write home about. Dialogue is pretty wooden and laden with exposition and not the good kind, it's the "as you already know..." kind. Lots of patting himself in the back by Donny Cates too, with references to previous titles of his that are presented as some sort of cultural touchstones and which are anything but. The reveal at the end of #6 was groan inducing. Overall this is a "skip" from me.

I did quite enjoy the (kinda) standalone issue #7 by guest writer Chip Zdarsky, taking what was an overdone concept by Cates and exploring a very interesting angle. Feels like the story heavy-lifting will be done by guest writers, with Cates providing the requisite "KAPOW!" superhero filler. ( )

Imagine every superhero and supervillain from every comic book publisher all crashing into the "real" world simultaneously. How would we respond to that? How would they? Such a ridiculously clever concept. Can't wait to find out what happens next! ( )
