Book for primary through intermediate. A young girl is raised in a refugee camp after the war, and she longs to know what is outside of the camp. One day her father climbs the tallest tree with her, to show her what is beyond the camp. Great book for history lessons, introducing this culture.

This book was beautifully illustrated and follows a young girl who grew up in a refugee camp. It was a story of childlike wonder and longing for more. It would be a great read-aloud and addition to a classroom library for K-2nd. ( )

(Auto)biographical story of Yang's life in the Ban Vinai Refugee Camp in Thailand (1985) from ages 4-6. Goregous illustrations based on real photographs of life in camp, where many contrasts exist: games and playfulness among the kids, hushed conversations about heavy topics among the adults. In answer to her question, "Is the whole world a refugee camp?' her father climbs the tallest tree to show her the world beyond the fences of the camp.

The book follows a family who escapes a war and is living in a refugee camp. This book shows the experiences of what they live through daily and how they live. This book is a good message of how we should always treasure the small things and how we need to have hope for better things to come in the future. ( )
