This is about Lizzie’s sister, Laura, who appears in Goblin Fruit. In 1925, she’s invited to a house party in the Isles of Scilly, and one of the other guests is murdered.

[Galen’s] mother sat, with much less than her usual grace. “It’s entirely inconsiderate, is what I think. Dying in someone’s conservatory. We’re the ones with all the bother.”

As a murder mystery, I quite enjoyed this! I liked the setting. The main characters, their relationships and their efforts to investigate were interesting. But as a romance, I found it unsatisfying and rushed -- in part because I spent so long uncertain what direction the love triangle would, or indeed, should, head in. Not what I was expecting.

However, I seem to have reached a point where I’m not just reading this series for the cosy romances, I’m also becoming more curious about the world building of Albion. So even if the romance doesn’t appeal so much, the book feels more worthwhile than it might if I read it out of context. If that makes sense. ( )
