We get his meeting with the Big Ship himself Warwick Armstrong, his father's annual trip, with silk top hat, to London to organise Warwickshire's schedule for the next season, and his correspondence with P.G. Wodehouse, where Wodehouse confirms that his character Jeeves was named after a Warwickshire medium-pacer who would perish in World War I. Ryder got a good story out of their contact while Wodehouse got a free Warwickshire CCC tie, a win-win situation.
Ryder died not long after "Cricket Calling's" publication but we got a lifetime supply of cricket stories straight from the horse's mouth, so we get a win out of it too. ( )
