Oh, war das spannend! Die Geschichte um Lexi und ihre fünf Freudinnen, die auf einer griechischen Insel Lexis Jungesellinnenabschied feiern, hat mich wirklich gepackt. Es gibt so viele unerwartete Twists und tastächlich wachsen einem alle sechs sehr ans Herz. Ich fand das Buch wirklich super.
Was negativ ist: Es gibt gruselige Namensfehler, nicht nur einmal werden die Namen einfach vertauscht. Ausserdem hätte man sich die Teile mit diesen Andeutungen einfach sparen können. Aber ansonsten ist es einer der besten Spannungsromane, die ich in letzter Zeit gelesen habe und dabei relativ unblutig! ( )

Not my normal choice, read for book club and enjoyed it, I wouldn’t say I was overly stunned with a major plot twist, maybe as I knew one was coming so was on the look out. A good read with nice suspense, if try the author again. ( )

Sechs Freundinnen reisen für ein paar Tage auf eine griechische Insel um Lexis Junggesellinnen-Abschied zu feiern. Alles scheint perfekt zu sein, doch dann tun sich Brüche auf, denn alle haben sie ihre Geheimnisse, die ans Tageslicht drängen. Und dann liegt eine Leiche am Strand unterhalb ihrer Villa...
Dies war mein erstes Buch der Autorin Lucy Clarke. Ihr Schreibstil liest sich angenehm flüssig und die Atmosphäre der Insel ist gut dargestellt. Das Geschehen wird aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven erzählt und bringt auch die Gedanken und Absichten gut zum Ausdruck.
Die Geschichte beginnt eher ruhig, denn erst einmal lernt man die sechs Freundinnen kennen. Dennoch ist man aufgrund des Klappentextes gespannt, wie sich die Sache entwickelt. Man spĂĽrt recht frĂĽh, dass die sehr unterschiedlichen Frauen etwas zu verbergen haben. Nicht jede von ihnen war mir wirklich sympathisch.
Die Atmosphäre, die anfangs recht unbeschwert war, wird zunehmend bedrohlicher – jnd dann gibt es besagte Leiche.
Gut, dass das Buch als Roman deklariert wurde, denn als Thriller kann ich die Geschichte trotz der aufgebauten Spannung nicht bezeichnen.
Das Ende bringt aber durchaus noch Ăśberraschungen. ( )

This book has it all. A beautiful Greece setting, characters you care about. a quick, dramatic pace, and it will keep you guessing. A group of friends take off on a “hen” weekend, a bachelorette party to celebrate Lexi’s upcoming wedding but everyone on this trip has a secret she is keeping and at the top of the story you know someone ends up dead so from the very first page I was pulled in.

Clarke tells a really good story. There are some surprises and many twists but that gorgeous Greece setting takes center stage. With each page, you are right there with them. At the villa, on the boat, soaking up the sun and enjoying they many drinks that a gathering such as this one has readily available. Clarke slowly peels back the many layers and reveals all of their insecurities and worries and doubt. Do you ever really know your friends?

If you haven’t read One of the Girls yet, you should. It was excellent and got me out of my slump. ( )

An enjoyable read. Full of fake-outs that are surprising and keep you guessing. Definitely an interesting exposure of what we keep from others and the little lies we tell ourselves. It was nice to see personal growth in the characters, mostly with one of the bride's long-time chums, Robyn. All that said, I do feel the story description is a bit misleading as to the characters' motivations and the story arc. (It's not truly a "locked room" style mystery as implied.) ( )
