So similar to the first one but even more repetitive. Elin is always about to do something when something catches her eye. I find the narrative in the present tense is annoying. Having said that. I finished it. ( ) I really hope no one is using my reviews of mysteries as recommendations. Are you? Stop it. I am wildly subjective and willing to ignore big flaws if the positives are what I need in the moment. So. I didn't love the first book, but I think this one is better. I had a headache and a storm was coming, and I just wanted to listen to a story about some sad sacks stuck on an island, and that is what I got. That said, I spent the last ~20% waiting for one more twist to reveal that the murderer was who I'd determined it must be, not for the story but for the characters. There was some disappointment. I just have to repeat the lesson I learned from Pike and Stine in middle school... just because he's not the killer, does not mean he's a good boyfriend. May we all learn that lesson. Book 2 of the Elin Warner series. Once again, Elin is sent to a secluded place - this time The Retreat which is on an island connected by a bridge to the mainland. She invites her boyfriend to come spend the weekend with her while she investigates a murder at The Retreat. Years earlier, children were murdered at a camp on the island. Now, more people are murdered. Is there a connection? Elin also feels someone watching her, which is a continuation from book 1. Still happening in this book. Another spooky book with Elin as the main character. A good series continues! I wonder - will the next book once again put Elin is a place cut off from civilization? geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
