There is a girl who has no memory and no name, only an armored giant guardian who protects her from predators and pitfalls. Together they walk across the world. But when they come across civilization, with its temptations and treacheries, it will test their bond beyond its limits.

I found this graphic novel on a whim at a comic book shop and immediately fell in love with Girl. The art in this is phenomenal - colorful, dynamic, and emotional. You should honestly read this book alone for the art! It’s also a good “silent graphic novel” to start with if you’ve never read one of these before.

There are words in this novel, but they’re not from a language anyone will understand - you’re not supposed to. It can get a little confusing as to what you may think is happening but I found that made the novel all the more interesting. By the end of it, I was able to figure out what was supposed to have happened and where I may have been confused and was able to go back and review the panels and see.

This is for sure going to be a novel I will pick up again and again to revisit the story, as I’m sure each experience will only enrich the reading time and time again. ( )

Même si le lecteur aguerri entreverra très tôt la conclusion stupéfiante du récit, sa mise en scène, son découpage, ses choix de narration avec le refus de la facilité des dialogues (en dehors de quatre paragraphes introduisant les quatre chapitres, aucun des rares dialogues n'est intelligible, écrits dans un langage codé) et surtout ses illustrations dont certaines en pleine page, voire sur une double-page, offrent un spectaculaire album d'initiation, dont l'aspect fantasy se mâtine de pure SF.
