I am excited to read Wisteria when it is released later this year. ( ) One would think that a novel about Death and Fate would not be romantic, and one would be wrong. Adalyn Grace proves how romantic Death and Fate can be in FOXGLOVE, book two in her Belladonna trilogy. The introduction of Fate as the third angle in a Death and Signa love triangle is a clever plot twist. Fate's addition to the story forces Signa to examine her powers and her feelings, something few heroines of YA fantasy romance novels have the opportunity to do. Through this self-reflection, we see Signa develop into a formidable character. She is stronger because of her self-awareness and less compliant with societal pressures. Fate's insertion into Signa's story has additional consequences for the other characters, particularly Signa's cousin Blythe. It is so much fun discovering how similar the girls are in feistiness, determination, and cleverness. Blythe is a character I grew to love as I learned more about her. Given the ending of FOXGLOVE, I am particularly eager to see how Blythe's story proceeds in the finale. I have a feeling it is going to be a blast. FOXGLOVE hits all the right notes for me. There are great characters that continue to develop. The pacing has the perfect balance between action, reflection, and description. Its mystery kept me guessing, and the story's conclusion was satisfying while making me eager to read more. Plus, it is romantic without annoying plot devices like miscommunication to create unnecessary drama. FOXGLOVE is an excellent example of why I can't seem to quit the YA fantasy romance genre. The genre is just too strong and enjoyable to ignore! A duke has been murdered. The lord of Thorn Grove has been framed. And Fate, the elusive brother of Death, has taken up residence in a sumptuous estate nearby. He's hellbent on revenge after Death took the life of the woman he loved many years ago...and now he's determined to have Signa for himself, no matter the cost. Signa and her cousin Blythe are certain that Fate can save Elijah Hawthorne from prison if they will entertain his presence. But the more time the girls spend with Fate, the more frightening their reality becomes as Signa exhibits dramatic new powers that link her to Fate's past. With mysteries and danger around every corner, the cousins must decide if they can trust one another as they navigate their futures in high society, unravel the murders that haunt their family, and play Fate's unexpected gamesāall with their destinies hanging in the balance. Dangerous, suspenseful, and seductive, this sequel to Signa and Death's story is as utterly romantic as it is perfectly deadly. 3.75 When I started reading this I was a little disappointed and felt like the book was going to be a 3 star. Death was barely in it (boo) and Signa was pretty useless. Things, thankfully, did get better. When the ālove triangleā and āreincarnated wife tropeā came into play, I hated it. And if it had gone the way it was āmeant toā this book would definitely be a three star. But luckily Blythe literally came in to save this book. Will I read the next one? Probably not unless Signa and Death from book one return, not the shadow of them that was portrayed in this book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
