Former Toronto police chief William McCormack knows how ugly a homicide investigation can be. In ten years as a homicide detective, he investigated more than 100 homicides and came away with stories that range from grisly and bone-chilling to downright unbelievable -- and sometimes even comical. He shares some of Toronto's most famous murder cases, including the Scarborough Golf Club Road cabby murder and the shootout involving a bad-check artist at the Royal York Hotel. Good and quick read, but other detective memoirs out there can offer a bit more. This is, however, a good testament to the changing crime scene in urban environments in North America between 1965-1980. ( )
