Another excellent little book from the Shire Library. Profusely illustrated, it is a pity that some great photographs were not identified in the captions or text - where is that extraordinary pier on page 7, what is the identity of the paddle steamer on page 21 (and a few other captions similarly)? Better editing would have avoided unnecessary repetition on a number of pages and better proof reading mistakes in the index.. Nevertheless, this is a good short history of some 200 years of pleasure steamers - paddle steamers and more modern vessels - and I hope that it inspires the reader to take a day trip on board one of the remaining vessels that ply the British coast in late spring and summer months.
