Perils of a Papillon is the third book in the ‘Fuzzy Love’ series. It stars Toby Albertine, a teacher, and Ernest, a mysterious man with a cat named ‘Cat’. Batshit the papillon also makes a return. The story is told in third person from Toby and Ernest’s pov.

I’ll start with the cover. This series had the first two covers redone, so this new book is in the same style as the first two. It coordinates well with the others in style.

The plot reminds me a bit of the first two books, with pieces put together to make Book Three. There’s a person in hiding, in this book it’s Ernest, which isn’t his real name. The conclusion has Toby being kidnapped like Jericho in Book Two. It also has Batshit racing to the rescue, biting the bad guy with the gun and saving the day. But what is better than the first two books, is the conflict at the end is much better written without inconsistencies. The thing I’ve noticed about this author’s books is when the conclusion has a battle or conflict, it’s like the author gets excited and rushes to write it all down, but there are lots of holes and inconsistencies that the betas, proofers, and editors don’t pick up and correct. Fortunately, the ending worked out well in this book. Minor incidences and events most people would gloss over in their reading, but which I notice, were well thought out, which made the conclusion much more enjoyable.

I liked the characters. They seemed to suit each other and I could believe in them as a couple as soon as they met. Ernest was mysterious and reserved when viewed from Toby’s pov, but outgoing when in Ernest’s pov. Toby was friendly, loved to teach and really wanted the tenured position. He wanted the position so much, he asked Ernest if he’d mind pretending to be his boyfriend since the University wants a married person to hold the position. Ernest is attracted to Toby and agrees. The author does a good job of showing the growing attraction between the two men. I liked them as a couple.

The plot is steady, not too slow and the ending had a fast pace, but didn’t have the inconsistent scenes at the end I thought the first two books had. I’d say this is the cleanest written of the three books, but I enjoyed the dog show setting of the second book the most. I give Perils of a Papillon, 4 Stars.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author for an honest and unbiased opinion.
