A wonderful, manageable volume of reflections/devotions from Dr. Plantinga. The author is a true scholar and always offers an interesting take on the chosen section of scripture. That being said, while the readings always leave the reader more knowledgeable, they may appeal more to the head than to the heart.

Plantinga is a well known author who offers insightful reflections on the Scriptures and is a sound guide for prayerful, faithful reading. Here he has biblical reflections for a deeper faith. The author asks us to struggle with the more obscure ideas buried in the text and seriously read the passages he reviews. The admonition is really to meditate and ponder the meanings of the texts.

Simplicity of expression does not result in superficiality. Plantinga demonstrates a profound grasp of spiritual insights arising from his meditations on the Bible and this little volume is one of the most inspiring tomes of Protestant spirituality that I have ever read. It reminds me of thoughtful and prayerful works such as J.I. Packer's Knowing God (https://www.librarything.com/work/10738/summary/34062857). I highly recommend this work for spiritual refreshment.

Beautifully written. 20 reflections on scripture that I have read many times in the past. The author opens these well-loved scriptures in a new a deeply meaningful way. Highly recommend. (

This book has only 178 pages but I took my time reading it. Each chapter started out with a bible verse and the author took the verse and wrote compelling and insightful reflections on each. At the end of each chapter, he concluded them with a prayer that I will turn to them again and again. In reading the book, I came away with a deeper understanding and meaning of each verse than what I had previously thought I knew. I thought it was fitting that the author ended the book with "If only there were someone" and a verse from Job. This was particularly meaningful to me because although I have read the book of Job over and over I never got the connection that the "someone" was Jesus. This is a book that I will read over and over and I would highly recommend this book to anyone searching for more meaning in the scriptures. (
