Another superb crime story featuring Sgt George Cross, a detective on the autistic spectrum with the uncanny knack of solving murders. Set in authentic Bristol locations with contemporary references, local and national, such as Colston and cultural appropriation it keeps the reader engaged throughout with well defined characters, inside and outside the police. In this story Cross also has a personal epiphany when he discovers the real reason his mother left home. Highly recommended series. ( ) The Politician by Tim Sullivan D.S. Cross #4 Concrete, linear, literal, capable, and charming…in his own way…George Cross has won me over and made me a fan. I had no trouble coming into this series on book four and am now curious to read the previous books to find out what has happened before. What I liked: * George Cross: police detective sergeant, different, sees the world a bit differently as he is ‘on the spectrum’, never knowingly offends, a bit abrupt, carries a notebook for cases and to track other tidbits he wants to return to, complex and yet simple…really enjoyed getting to know this man. * Googling to find out more about police who have Asperger’s and/or are ‘on the spectrum’ * Josie Ottey: detective sergeant partnered with George, single parent, has two daughters, has forged her own relationship and understanding of and with George, seems to have had difficulty coping with/understanding George in the past, balances George in some ways * Raymond: George’s father, learned quite a bit about him and how his past impacted George * Joseph: a local priest in the church George practices/plays organ in one hour per week * Chief Superintendent Heather Matthews: brought in by her superior to be in charge of the murder investigation of ex-Mayor Peggy Frampton * The police procedural aspects of the story and watching George do his thing * Seeing the dynamics of George and Ottey with the people they work with * Michael Swift: a bit of a Cross fan, intriguing, intelligent, CSI and forensic scientist, might be developing an interest in Alice MacKenzie * Alice MacKenzie: staff officer, takes initiative, enjoys working with Swift and Cross, has aspirations * The plot, pacing, setting, character development, twists, turns, and surprises * Knowing that there will be another book in the series What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Having to say goodbye to George and the series Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Definitely Thank you to NetGalley and Aria and Aries for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

THE DETECTIVE DS George Cross loves puzzles â?? he's good at them â?? and he immediately spots one when he begins investigating the death of former mayor Peggy Frampton. It looks like a burglary that went horribly wrong to most but George can see what others can't â?? that this was murder. THE PUZZLE After her political career ended, Peggy became a controversial blogger whose forthright opinions attracted a battalion of online trolls. And then there's her family: an unfaithful husband and a gambling-addicted son. With yet more enemies in her past, the potential suspects are unending. THE SUSPECTS Cross must unpick the never-ending list of seedy connections to find her killer â?? but the sheer number of suspects is clouding his usually impeccable logic.
