Rival physicists collide in a vortex of academic feuds and fake dating shenanigans in this delightfully STEMinist romcom from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain.

The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, sheâ??s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs.

Honestly, itâ??s a pretty sweet gigâ??until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down. Because Jack Smith, the annoyingly attractive and arrogant older brother of her favorite client, turns out to be the cold-hearted experimental physicist who ruined her mentorâ??s career and undermined the reputation of theorists everywhere. And heâ??s the same Jack Smith who rules over the physics department at MIT, standing right between Elsie and her dream job.

Elsie is prepared for an all-out war of scholarly sabotage butâ?¦those long, penetrating looks? Not having to be anything other than her true self when sheâ??s with him? Will falling into an experimentalistâ??s orbit finally tempt her to put her most guarded theo

I really liked most of this book. There were some things that bugged me, but I'm trying not to let those things take away my enjoyment for the book as a whole.

I like how Elsie grew as a person over the course of the book. I like her friendships and I like how some of her other relationships became healthier as the book went on.

I like Elsie's chemistry and relationship development with Jack. The relationship seems unbalanced for a while, because one of them seems to have their stuff together and the other one doesn't, but that gets better as the book goes on. Both of their characters make mistakes and grow.

As far as the things that I don't like, a big one is the author's obsession with size, which is as clear in this book as it is in all of her others.

Also, I really don't like that Jack told Elsie, in detail, about him having sex with others. When they were making out. And I don't care that she was the one who asked about it. It's gross and unrealistic to me. ( )

I feel the same about this one as I did the other two STEM romcoms in this series: reliably fun and feel-good. If you liked The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain, you’ll enjoy this one, too. I particularly enjoyed the politics of academia in this one (even if I skimmed over the heavy description of physics). This did, however, feel a bit too long with a way too slow slow-burn.

Thank goodness! After the mess that was “Love on the Brain”, this book brings back the fun of “Love Hypothesis.” ( )

I am beyond sick and tired of seeing the whole “women in stem are oppressed” garbage. In the real world, no one acts like the stem men do in this series. It almost seems like the author is trying to scare women away from stem with how terribly the men behave (except for the leading man, of course). ( )
