YOU are a business, conducting transactions every day for the purpose of sustaining your well-being, and toward scaling and growing as a person. The success of these transactions depends largely on your salability as an individual, and on your sensibility to distinguish between obstacles and opportunities. If you are willing to embrace the 'person as a business' concept, then it is easy to accept the proposition that the success of any business is linked to the human qualities of the people in it. The four principles essential for all success may be expressed as follows: Salability + Sensibility + Sustainability + Scalability = Successa process dubbed, the 4S Transform. In this book, you will learn how to identify and apply these "4S" principles toward your own definition of success, including establishing your own business. It is a fun and easy read, with humorous lessons and real-life examples which illustrate that the quality of one's character plays a dominant role in the success of any transaction, personal or professional. If you are determined to run your own business, despite lacking any previous experience or formal training in that field this book is for you. You'll discover that you already possess the pieces to build your own success.… (meer)

The mix of business advice and humorous lessons learned from childhood make for an easy and interesting read. The author writes an enjoyable manor and makes it really a book about funny childhood hijinks with some good business and life advice mixed in ( )

I went into reading this book worried that I was going to be bored because it would be dry & boring so I was completely blown away when I found the book engaging, funny & insightful. I really enjoyed the book. It a short book so didn't take very long to read but it was definitely worth it. It's more a memoir that you don't realize has any advice or lessons until you finish reading and it dawns on you there's a lot to learn from all of the included anecdotes and recounted stories, not just guides for starting & managing a business, but for life in general. I'm glad I took a chance on this book and I'll be passing it on to my friends. ( )

Lessons My Brothers Taught Me is a very entertaining and yes, endearing book. The family anecdotes are hilarious and give you a really warm feeling of rowdy brothers growing up together (and their poor mother and sister). I enjoyed the drawings and the lessons from each anecdote. This is not a stodgy book you normally would end up reading as an assignment in business school; it provides much practical advice in a very humorous way. I felt like the author was having lunch or afternoon tea with me on a nice, comfortable verandah while recounting to me how he built his business and giving me some big picture advice on what to focus on if I wanted to succeed in setting up my own. Starting a new business, especially for those who have never done so before, can be a daunting and risky adventure. Charles D. McCarrick’s new book ‘Lessons My Brothers Taught Me’ discusses just ‘How to Transform Your Personal Qualities Into A Successful Business’, and is a practical must read for all novice and experienced business visionaries. Using a multitude of personal childhood short stories mixed with humor and his actual business experiences, McCarrick details the steps, triumphs, and difficulties he encountered as he built his business from an idea to a successful enterprise.

The author is just the sort of mentor many new business enthusiasts need on speed dial. With minimal business school jargon, and using only four major principles, he covers the necessary steps from business conception through succession.

I received this book to review from the publisher through my membership with LibraryThing. I give it 5 stars for its readability, practical advice, and personal touch that many business advice books lack. ( )
