At a new school, you get a chance to reinvent yourself, so...why not be a vampire? Gordon is hiding something. Is it the fact that he's secretly a vampire? No, of course n-wait. Yes. That's exactly what he's hiding. Let's go with that. So when this nerdy teen moves to a small town where all the kids are obsessed with vampire fiction, he reinvents himself as their dream character: dark & brooding, cool as hell, and overly susceptible to stabs through the heart. While rivaling the alpha male jock, garnering the attention of the most popular girl in his class, and forming a hilarious friendship with the girl next door (the only one who knows his secret), Gordon might find that this new school is the perfect place for him to shine-or, better yet, sparkle. But if his classmates dig up the truth, it'll be the nail in his coffin...… (meer)

This was a delight. The writing is captivating and engaging, the characters were well developed, and the humor made me actually laugh out loud. Having gone to 3 high schools myself, this book really brought me back to the "you can reinvent yourself into anything!" feelings that one has when starting a new school. This book is light hearted but also tackles some more serious topics in a really nicely done way. ( )

"Social Vampire" by James Schannep is a very good book about many things relevant to to the life of a young man today. Among them are the loss of a parent, moving to a new town, and adjusting to a new school and making new friends (and new teachers). !5 year old Gordon (or is he 14?) makes it known to his new schoolmates that he is in reality an ageless vampire who can never die. Since many of the teens of Bozeman, Montana , are already really into the latest vampire novel craze, this isn't as hard a sell as one might think. This is a very witty, enjoyable read which many teenagers will enjoy, even,or especially, the guys. The one drawback I would mention is that there does not seem to be even one really mean or crude kid in the whole school! I recommend this book highly! ( )

This is an entertaining and fun book! Gordon moves to a new town and a new school and introduces himself as not only the new kid but possibly a vampire. From the beginning you know that something is off and that it involves his mother. Over the course of the story, you are entranced as Gordon interacts (often poorly) with his classmates, teachers, and dad. There is a warm-hearted mix of teenage drama (crushes, jealousy, etc.), overcoming grief, and establishing relationships. The portrayal of being a teenager is realistic and the characters are well-developed and likable. This is definitely a coming-of age story that will readers of all ages will enjoy. Thanks for the ARC LibraryThing and James Schannep. "Team Gordon all the way" ( )
