Adam Courtney returns to Navitity Bay to find his his home in ruins and his family murdered. Thus begins his search for those responsible and to have have his revenge. I gave this 3 Stars because of the amount of violence throughout the book and the story going back and forth between characters and time periods. I received this book from LibraryThing as an Early Review ( )Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Yes, everyone else seems to love this book, but I could not get past the gratuitous violence on every page of this book. Two story lines, two lines of violence, I wanted to toss the book aside halfway through. Some violence is OK, but this much? Ugh. And really, how could someone survive all the people survived in this story. It seemed so fictitious. The only redeeming line was the two-story lines and how could they come together in the end. This historical fiction adventure continues the saga of the Courtney family, previously seen in earlier Smith novels. Set in the period of the French Revolution and Napoleon's reign, it tells the story of Adam Courtney and Paul Courtenay, unbeknownst to them relatives, on either side of the world, engaged in adventures that include warcraft, romances and sexual escapades. This is a rip-roaring tale of war exploits, adventures on the high seas, and high personal dramas. Plenty of twists and surprises here. Will please the avid historical novel reader. Nemesis is the latest book and it’s filled with action and adventure. It’s a complex book though because it has parallel plot lines of two characters and every other chapter talks about one of them. I did not get confused though and followed the riveting story. I’m probably going to go find the beginning of this series thanks to reading this book.geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
