She would love to catch the attention of her crush, Sebastian Ramos, but he has been so hot and cold with her for the last few months that she doesn't know what to expect from him. In the meantime, all of her friends are still affected by the suicide last summer of Jordyn Chang. When Riley starts to experience strange things happening in the house where they are staying that is supposedly haunted, she starts to question what she really knows about her friends. With a hurricane approaching, she may be in more danger than she knows. Summer Rental is reminiscent of all the horror films where the teenage main characters do everything wrong to put themselves in danger. If that is the point of this novel, then more details should have been included to bring that idea to the forefront. However, Summer Rental does use red herrings successfully to create suspense, while making it difficult to figure out exactly who is behind the increasingly scary events in the story. Even though the character development is minimal in favor of the creation of a frightening mood and atmosphere, most of characters still come across as unlikable and difficult to care about. Overall, the weaknesses of Summer Rental are balanced with its strengths. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Mean Girls meets Scream in this heart-pounding psychological thriller about a group of friends stranded on an island with a serial killer on the loose. Riley March and her friends are headed to ritzy, remote Palm Key Island for one last blow-out party weekend before college. It’s the vacation of a lifetime: beautiful beaches, epic nightlife, and hot guys like Riley’s crush—superstar soccer player Sebastian Ramos. There’s just one catch. Everyone on this trip is hiding something. Riley is hiding her past in order to fit in. Sebastian is hiding his feelings for Riley. And someone is hiding what really happened to Jordyn Chang, a classmate that mysteriously died last summer. Things take a dark turn after one of their friends goes missing, and a hurricane cuts the group off from civilization. Trapped inside their rental house, a killer stalks them one by one. No one is safe. Everyone’s a suspect. As the body count rises, Riley and her friends will have to confront the secrets they’ve been keeping if they want to stay alive… Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
