Setting this disappointing issue aside I felt that the Mugen Spiral story was a very well fleshed out one. In these two manga we learn the tale of the orphaned mystic, Yayoi Suzuka, and how her world is turned upside down when she seals the demon prince, Ura, in the form of a cute black kitten. Ura had attacked Yayoi determined to kill her, steal her powers and help his ailing father. However, as Yayoi and Ura, in his various forms as cat, human and demon, live, fight and protect each other things become more complicated than hunter vs. prey or mystic vs. demon.
The characters here are very enjoyable and I loved the conflict between them. Yayoi was tough as nails without being an over the top Wonder Woman type and Ura was great with his alternating tough guy exterior and denials of his sweet protectiveness towards the people he cares for. The artwork was certainly better than average and I thought Ura in his black kitten form was quite cute. I love cats so this was certainly a plus.
Certainly a very worthy young adult, urban fantasy that I do recommend despite the unfulfilling ending. ( )
