V pořadí druhé dobrodružství známé herecké dvojice, tentokráte Afrikou. Cherley Boorman glosuje: Vzpomínám si, jak to začalo. Bylo to jednoho pozdního pátečního večera v říjnu 2004. Byli jsme v naší staré kanceláři na Bulwer Street. Všude byly krabice a kusy papíru, a veškeré vybavení bylo pryč. Několik minut jsme tam jen tak stáli a přemýšleli. Tady začala celá naše cesta "Na motorce kolem světa". Tady jsme to všechno plánovali, kontrolovali mapy; tady jsme poprvé uviděli ty motorky. Bylo to za námi. Objeli jsme svět. Byla to obrovská cesta. Impozantní dobrodružství. Ale teď už bylo po všem. Na zdech pořád ještě visely mapy a my zase stáli před nimi.
Ewan na mě mrknul. "Co říkáš, Charley?"
"Nevím."
"Jižní Afrika, nebo možná Indie?"
Podíval jsem se na něj: "Co takhle projet Afriku?" Cestovatelská touha dvou dobrodruhů, Ewana McGregora a Chaleyho Boormana, po jejich senzační cestě kolem světa v roce 2004 neutuchla. Poté, co v Africe navštívili UNICEF, bylo jim jasné, že se musí vrátit a blíže se s tímto pozoruhodným světadílem seznámit. A tak se vydali na 24 000 kilometrů dlouhou dobrodružnou výpravu, při které se setkali s tím nejobtížnějším terénem a těmi nejpřátelštějšími lidmi na světě. Při jízdě velkolepou krajinou, často v extrémních teplotách, čelili Ewan a Charley nejtěžším zkouškám svého života. Se svým příznačným humorem popisují dramata, nebezpečí a ryzí potěšení z další společné jízdy, tentokrát skrze kontinent plný divů a zázraků.

The book is comprised of alternating short sections of text from Ewan and Charley describing their journey from the north of Scotland to the south of Africa on motorcycles. I had seen Long Way Round on TV, but not read the book and I had seen perhaps one episode of Long Way Down on TV. I have to say it makes better TV than books. In part this is because of the visual aspect of travel in such interesting places, and I fear in part because the writing does not really draw you in in its short diary style structure. The story though is engaging and there are descriptions, albeit to me rather superficial descriptions, of many interesting places. The book too focuses a lot on the arguments and disunity between the team and even between the main protagonists. I would have much preferred it if this had been omitted for more details of the places, the bikes and the riding. It felt like they were trying to draw me in to some petty argument and make me take sides. When I envied what they were doing, I really did not want to know about their quarrels. ( )

Morsom kjøretur med motorsykkel fra nordspissen av Skottland til Cape Agulhas i Sør-Afrika gjennom Frankrike, Sveits, Italia, Tunisia. Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Etiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia og til Sør-Afrika. Det handler om gutter som skal leve ut guttedrømmen mens konene er hjemme og passer barna. Samtidig besøker de humanitære tiltak på veien for å skape blest om de.
Det er et paradoks gjennom hele boken at vi på den ene siden har med sytete, bortskjemte gutter som får gjøre akkurat det de vil, og som stort sett forteller om seg selv uten at vi blir spesielt kjent med noen andre i det hele tatt,. Men på den andre siden blir jeg fenget av opplevelsene deres, samtidig som jeg vet at denne fortellingen virker som en eye-opener for tusenvis av lesere (og tv-tittere, det er nemlig laget en tv-serie om reisen) som ikke har noe forhold til Afrika i det hele tatt, og som får en vekker både for mulighetene Afrika gir for eventyrere, og for alle de gode tiltakene det går an å støtte på det afrikanske kontinentet. Jeg kan være snobb og si at jeg ville hatt en annen historie, men dette er den historien jeg får, og uansett hvor politisk korrekt det er eller ikke, så er det engasjerende og enkel lesning.
Det er også et tankekors når Charley Boorman sikkert helt riktig sier at ska man reise fra Cape til Kairo, så må man gjøre det nå. For om fem år er hele strekket asfaltert, og da blir det aldri mer det samme. Jeg håper det skjer, og jeg håper det ikke skjer. ( )
