( ) I had mixed feelings about this book because it’s a poem book about china but I couldn’t always understand the illustrations or the writing. I liked the illustrations because they were different, they were abstract and colorful but I couldn’t always understand what they were. The writing was very descriptive and helped me picture a picture in my mind of what they were saying. But sometimes I had trouble connecting everything that was said in each line of the poem. I really enjoyed how the book was laid out, it was different than others. Instead of turning the page and reading a different line, it is laid out where all the lines of the poem were able to be seen and read down like a poem. Each line of the poem could be flipped up to see the illustration. The meaning of this story is the give people the idea of what china looks like and how people describe it. This was a visual poem book about China and the only great thing about this book was the art work. The illustrations are beautiful. They are colorful, abstract and vibrant. The only thing I felt was missing was more information about China. I do not feel like I learned anything new from this book because the author did not add any big facts about China. The book did not talk about any of the things that China has to offer or any famous monuments. I did like the style of the book and the way the pages were set up. The first look at this book is intriguing, because the book is sideways. You open the pages up, and the pages are staggered, allowing you to see the line of a poem at the bottom of each page. As you turn the pages, you can see pictures that depict each line. I would recommend this book for older elementary students. One each page, it shows the characters of the words written in Chinese. It would be great to teach students how to draw the different characters to represent the poem. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
