Each poem is about a different animal and they all come across simple and pleasant. The illustrations pair well with each poem. ( ) This is a beautiful book. The poems are arranged according to season, a very Japanese conceit. Because it is pretty much impossible to translate Japanese poetry and maintain its strict formality, and because there is no explanatory material, one can't tell, with many of these poems, whether they are haiku, waka or other forms. Though from their short length, and the frequent seasonal references, I'd guess haiku. Each poem refers to a specific animal, which is illustrated by Hitz Demi, aptly and with stunning colors. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
