I liked the book for two reasons. The first reason I like the book is that it is bilingual. For example, the book says "It's Cinco de Mayo! ¡Es el cinco de mayo!". I also like the book because it teaches children about a different culture. It teaches kids about cinco de mayo and why it is important in Mexico. For example, it talks about the war on May 5th 1982 between the French and Mexico. The lesson of this book is to teach children about the history of Cinco de Mayo. I liked this book because the illustrations were very supportive of the text and because it introduces a new culture to someone who may be reading it. The main idea for this book is to teach the reader about the tradition of cinco de Mayo. This book does this by telling a story of a little boy who sits with his grandfather who explains that there was a battle on the 5th of May that Mexico won and that is why they celebrate. This book also helps to teach children about the language of Spanish because the text is written in both English and Spanish. It also shows examples of how they celebrate traditionally such as having a parade, mariachi bands, and pinatas. This book would be a good book to read to a younger classroom of children to teach them about Mexican culture specifically the 5th of May. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Another book about holidays, this one has a direct translation of every sentence of English text to Spanish. Exposing young students to foreign languages is proven to be beneficial in developing their brain to think critically.
Reasons
Language: While they may not be learning Spanish, students have the ability to contextualize language and see that people everywhere are saying things that are meaningful, while they may not be using their native language. A similar end is met with shows such as “Dora the Explorer” and books like Madeline, where the primary benefit is the exposure to foreign languages.
Illustrations: The illustrations in this book are vibrant and reflect the topic of Cinco de Mayo. They span entire pages and show pertinent scenes from the story, whether it be related to history or otherwise. The illustrations of the parades are colorful and show many different aspects of the celebration including the costumes. (
