I read this book over two separate periods - I can't remember why I had to stop and then start again, really. The first half I really enjoyed - it was funny, fresh and really a good read. Somewhere it lost me however, as the writing style kinda got old. Maybe I'm the one getting old - their hijinks reminded me of younger days - folks I knew in my younger days, not really me :-) Nevertheless, a good read for anyone looking for a little perspective on the homeland. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Pop-culture junkie and self-described Americaphile Sean Condon, along with his calm friend David, set out on a journey from New York to San Francisco. Along the way Sean investigates the legendary people, places, and TV programs that sustained him through his difficult pre-pubescent years. Will he survive the channel-switching, the miles of highway, the country & western radio station, and the all-you-can-eat fast-food joints? Sean behaves unwisely and risks several ironic remarks in this very funny take on life in the United States. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

We meet Condon, now working in an advertising agency who has been promised a work trip to the US, which was then reneged on at the last moment, so Condon decides to head to the US anyway and embark on another long drive. He gets sick and has to go to a doctor, pretends to be a blind man and apparently exacts a vicious revenge on his old manager from the agency.
There's nothing overly memorable about "Drive thru America", although for whatever reason I decided to give Condon yet another chance and read his follow-up, which is actually better than this. ( )
