The release of The CR FAQ - An Introduction to Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism is a landmark in the field of Celtic religion and spirituality. The first book completely devoted to the spiritual path of Celtic Reconstructionism (CR), it is the work of a diverse group of CR elders, including some of the founders of the tradition, making it a foundation document for this growing religious and cultural community. Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism (CR) is a movement that seeks to rebuild and revitalize an authentic, pre-Christian, polytheistic spiritual practice, one that is true to the ancient sources and the ways of the ancestors, yet also contains deep relevance to our lives in the modern world. With a welcome glossary and pronunciation guide, The CR FAQ provides a much-needed and helpful introduction to the Celtic languages, as well as suggestions for personal practice and a resources section. All proceeds are being donated to Gaelic language and cultural preservation charities. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

This is probably one of the most useful books on my shelf. I am not CR, I am Wiccan. I bought this book for reasons I can't even remember, but I am really glad I did. It is arranged exactly like a standard FAQ. It has a section that plainly explains what CR is. The questions range from basic to more advanced. Questions about misconceptions, theology, ritual, and ethics are included. Then there is a good section about the differences between CR and other Pagan paths like Wicca and Druidry. Then there is a huge book list.
The book list is almost worth the price of the book alone. It's massive. Another thing that is a big reason this book is always sitting out is the pronunciation guide. I have several books with similar guides (and I know there are web resources), but this one is one of the best I have ever seen. The glossary is quite good too.
I really just can't say enough about how fantastic this book is. I guess I can't say that every Wiccan needs it - if you don't study up on Celtic myth then you would have no use for it. And the theology and ethics is an overview of course so it's not going to replace actual reading. But I do find that a lot of Wiccans are thoroughly unfamiliar with what CRs really do believe and what "it" really is all about. I think any Wiccan who honors Celtic gods would benefit from having this book on their shelf for the information that is contained in it. And honestly, if for no other reason than to better understand the CR religion. ( )
