Nice, well done, but I'm just not sure I actually enjoyed it. Nor do I think kids would unless they can directly identify with it. The illustrative style does surely make one feel as if one is in hot, dusty, flat Kansas, though. ( )

Father takes little boy to see the Kansas mountains, which don't exist because Kansas is so flat. They arrive at a grain elevator, go up, can see the whole county, as if on top of a mountain. Exciting because boy gets to go alone with no siblings, special time with dad. ( )

This is a fantastic example of realistic fiction. It is set in present day and tells a realistic story about a father and son who explore a grain elevator. It creates a great picture of this father and son relationship. It also gives a great window into a little boys perspective on his world.
