An excellent summary of the tenets of the Christian faith with numerous scriptural references cited for support of the various topics. A few sections are somewhat archaic such as defining the papacy as the anti-christ, but all in all a very good doctrinal statement. It was reading this that began to solidify my reformed understanding of scripture and helped me to realize I could be both Baptist and reformed. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"In 1855 a reprinting of the Baptist Confession was issued by C.H. Spurgeon, primarily for the members of his own congregation. Spurgeon's words of introduction perfectly express the great value of this magnificent statement of doctrine...In this edition the Confession has been updated so that archaic, antiquated words (and word endings) have been replaced with their modern equivalents. The punctuation has also been updated, and difficult-to-follow sentences have been reconstructed, but as little as possible to ensure faithful reproduction of the original sense."--from Preface and Introduction.
Dr. Peter Masters has been the pastor at Spurgeon's church, the Metropolitan Tabernacle, since 1970. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
