Liberty Meadows is an animal sanctuary for some very special animals. Watched over by the beautiful Brandy and the geeky Frank, this strip is a a chaotic joyride of laughs. Cho's artwork is beautiful and his humor is both laugh-out funny and peculiar enough to strike my funny bone (I especially enjoy his sliding in other cartoon characters as well as breaking the third wall with his "Monkey Boy" character :) ) As an added touch, I really liked seeing the sketches at the end of this book! ( )

You know how Garrison Keillor has such a warm, comforting voice that you could listen to him read from the phonebook? Well, it's something like that with Frank Cho. His artwork, particularly with his gorgeous women, and particularly with Brandy, who may be one of the most drop-dead gorgeous 2-D women I have ever seen, is more than worth the price of admission. The rest of it is generally a fairly average, sort of likeable comic strip with a fair amount of humor. But Garrison Keillor writes a lot better books than Frank Cho does comic strips, and that's why I would have been just as happy if this book had been a portfolio of Cho's artwork. I do like the premise, though, about an animal sanctuary with Frank as the nebbish veterinarian who is (sort of secretly) in love with the drop-dead gorgeous Brandy, and inhabited by a variety of talking critters. And while I'm thinking of it, premises like this seem to be making the point that Brandy should learn to see past Frank's geeky exterior to see the real man he is inside... but Frank himself fell for the beauteous Brandy at first sight (as did I), and there is little evidence that he has looked much past that exterior himself. Would his heart still be all athrob if Brandy were short, plump and bespectacled? Just wondering. ( )
