A quality appraisal of Keith Holyoake has been a long time coming. This is a meticulously researched appraisal of his life, achievements and place in New Zealand history. My only criticism is that it is a bit too laudatory. Although criticisms are made and mentioned it would have been helpful to hear more comments from opposing politicians as well as more detail on problems caused by his conciliatory style e.g. some of the economic problems of the old Keynesian style of management which went unresolved.
