A good, readable book on the landscape of North West England. It covers most of the bases and has a pleasing enough format with plenty of photographs. But as you progress through it you begin to get a sense that the authors are working their way through a list of landscape influences and ticking them off as they complete the chapters. There isn't anything that brings it all together. The authors don't offer their readers any new ways of looking at what is around them. It reads like it was written from a sense of duty rather than pleasure or enquiry. ( )
