(And, of course, some are not as intellectual...) But what I love about Def Jam/Slam poetry is that it covers topics that mean something to every day people--and then shoves it down their throats. Don't get me wrong, Emily will always hold a special place in my heart, but she is not as easily understood as this type of poetry. I hope that I found some poems my students will enjoy, too!
