I love the Magic School Bus series, like this one undersea, because it is a fun book showing the adventures the students go through while in school and learning at the same time. The setting of this book is great. The story starts with the students and Ms. Frizzle in their classroom and then they go on their adventure on their magic school bus. What is interesting to me is that the author picks certain topics for a story that readers will learn something about. In this book, the magic school bus turns into a crab to learn about what happens under the ocean. The students turn into hermit crabs, which I thought was a cute touch to the story. This is not just a story about the adventure but about the learning experience. Throughout the book, there are informational facts, which helps readers learn more. “At low tide, animals protect themselves from dying out. They close their shells and tentacles to keep water inside.” Readers are not just learning about the animals themselves but also they learn about parts of the ocean and how the animals protect themselves. Also, the book labels everything so that readers learn while reading about this adventure the class goes on; things like barnacles, mussels, sea palm, and sea anemones. These labels help broaden the readers vocabulary. The main idea of this book is to inform readers about important environmental facts. This fun book gives readers an intellectual story as well as reading about a fun adventure. ( )
