This book describes observations of events leading to World War II and its effect on the Japanese community, life in the Tule Lake Internment Camp, and postwar struggles. The author chronicles the events at Tule Lake Camp where he was interned for three and a half years - the protests and strikes, the tension between the Issei, Nisei, and Kibei and the camp administration, the loyalty questionnaire debacle, the conflicts betwen different idealogical factions, the oppression of the army, the camp murders, the prisoners in the stockade, the renunciation of American citizenship and repatriation of renunciants to Japan.
