Kindergarten

This story is about life changes and the people who stand by you while you go through them. Tom couldn't wait to grow up and go to kindergarten, but when the day finally came and he was scared. His family stayed with him for the whole day. The next day, Tom was ready to stay in kindergarten by himself. But his family enjoyed it so much, they also wanted to stay. Tom found his independence and his parents remembered how to have fun again! ( )

Tom Goes to Kindergarten by Margaret Wild is a great book to read to kids attending school for the first time. This book tells about how frightening it is to go to school and leave you parents for the first time. Tom the Panda is so excited to attend school before he actually starts school. The day for him to start school comes and he does not realize that his parents are not there. His parents stay for the first day and by the second day he is okay! He wants to go to class by himself. Tom Goes to Kindergarten tells of a panda named Tom and his first day of kindergarten. He was very excited to start school, but on his first day there he did not want his mom and dad to leave him there. His mom and dad stayed with Tom on his first day. They enjoyed themselves so much. The next day, Tom was able to stay at school alone, but his parents did not want to leave because they had so much fun. I would read this to my students on the first day of school. It is a great book to start off the school year. ( )

This was a wonderful book to read and I was not expecting what came from it. Young Tom is a panda bear who is about to start kindergarten and he is very excited. On that big day, he gets up with happiness and is ready to start his school career. His parents walk him up toi the class and his teacher, Mrs. Polar Bear says "Hi". When his parents are walking away to leave, he jumps on their legs and tells them he doesn't want them to leave. The teacher tells them they can stay for the day to make Tom comfortable. The next day, they walk Tom up to class, and he runs in without their help, but now they want to stay and participate in class. They had so much fun the day before, they want to do it all again, but the teacher reminds them of their duties and jobs. A very goofy and funny story that makes the adults feel like kids again. ( )
