De jonge Derek is getuige van de moord op zijn buren, maar durft dat niet te melden. Als hij zijn vader vertelt over een geheimzinnig verhaal op een oude computer, gaat deze op onderzoek uit en ontdekt dat zijn vrouw een dubieuze rol speelt. Dan lijken de moordenaars het ineens op zijn gezin te hebben gemunt. Spannend verhaal, verteld vanuit het perspectief van de vader, dat weliswaar boeit en prettig leest, maar ook nogal gezochte wendingen en een wat makkelijk, moralistisch plot kent. De karakters zijn tamelijk voorspelbaar, buiten het verhaal om lijkt de wereld volkomen stil te staan.
This book follows last year's acclaimed No Time for Goodbye..This also has some unexpected twists and turns, not to mention some very good red herrings, but while I was kept guessing right to the end, the surprise finale was unconvincing.
Derek had bedacht dat als het eenmaal zover was, hij zich het best in de kruipruimte kon verstoppen.
