On the run from an abusive husband and a cult family, the pregnant heroine joins up with a depressed loner who lost his leg and his wife. In fact the story begins with the hero holding a gun an planning to kill himself. But a phone call stops him and instead he hooks up with the spoiled pure bred lady. The heroine came off as entitled and snobbish at first until you realized just how bad her life is. She's pregnant with a baby but her husband who beats her and is on the run to meet up with her fugitive brother. The two characters had a nice dynamic where you truly felt that they didn't want to want each other but in the end couldn't fight it. They balanced each other out, personality wise and I loved the hero's protectiveness towards the baby...sooo sweet! ( )

At the end of the last book, Brandon had run away from the ranch in Kentucky. While his brother, Caine and his sister, Emily came after him and they ended up dying. But his other sister, Tessa had followed and was trying to find Brandon to help him. So Dark Hunger follows Tessa and Rene, along with Brandon and Lina.

Tessa is pregnant and finds Rene annoying, yet irresistable at the same time. He gets in his moods where he drinks and he thinks of his long-lost love, Irene. But he finds Tessa irresistable too! As the story progresses, they are trying to hide from the Elders so that they can't find Brandon, but as the plot thickens, Tessa's husband comes looking for her and finds her. Rene has got to save her from him, because he beats her and he's afraid that something bad will happen to her after the baby is born. He's realizing that he loves Tessa.

So running throughout the country, the action keeps going and then they see themselves on the news, about being wanted for questioning a couple of deaths. Well, after keeping Tessa's husband tied and bound, Rene goes to him to talk to him about bargaining to keep the Elders away with the threat that Rene will expose some of things that he had been doing. I'm not going to say much more than that, because the end is twisted and left wide open for another book. I can't believe Rene would do something that it! Sorry, I'm afraid you're going to have to read the book, if you want to know what happens!

All in all, Sara Reinke moved right along with the story with little twists in the plot to keep the story moving forward! And plenty that nobody would have guessed, including the characters! Some of the stuff made me sad, especially when it came to the family secrets. I loved it and I'll be looking for the next in the series. She just left me hanging! I need to know what's going to happen! ( )
