As can be guessed from the title, The Old Witch Finds a New House, the answer to that question is yes, and Ida DeLage's cantankerous witchy heroine ends up getting to enjoy the best of both worlds. In keeping with developments in The Old Witch and Her Magic Basket and The Old Witch and the Dragon, this is a kinder, gentler witch than seen at the beginning of the series, in books such as The Old Witch Goes to the Ball. Our narrator even informs us, at one point, that "the old witch played tricks and she cast spells. But she wasn't a mean old witch." The artwork, done here by Pat Paris in black and white with green and orangish-red accents, has a vintage appearance, and a cartoon-like appeal. All in all, this was a fairly engaging entry in DeLage's thirteen-volume series devoted to the adventures of the Old Witch, and is recommended to young readers who enjoy witchy tales. ( )
