This fairy tale is about two brothers; one is an elder who is married and the younger one who is lonely and poor. One evening these two go walking in the moor to only find a maiden who is lying unconscious in the dead of winter. The elder brother wants nothing to do with her, but the younger brother insists on bringing her back to the cottage to take care of her for seven days and nights. On the last night when the younger brother is asleep the maiden finally awakens. The maiden sets out various plans for the brothers to receive their gifts and then she slips away in the shape of a snow goose. The illustrations the author uses in this book makes it feel like the medieval times. ( )

"The Maiden on the Moor" is a fairy tale that tells of a lonely, young shepherd who finds a frozen maiden. When his older brother refuses to help, he takes her into his humble home and cares for her with his dogs. For seven days she does not awaken. When she awakens, she enlists the three dogs to help with her peculiar requests. She is gone by morning, leaving a blooming branch and a maiden for the younger shepherd, and a frozen-over house for the older shepherd. In this fairy tale, the theme is that good things will happen to those who do good. The style of this book is not lively. There are some somber, dark, and slightly violent portions. Although the larger portion of the book is not upbeat, the story ends on a positive note. ( )

One day, the found a woman laying in the moor almost frozen to death, so the younger brother takes her to his home and tries to warm her and make her well. After a few days she gets better and sends each one of his three dogs to do tasks for her. She disappears and has a woman sent to his man to be his companion with his 2 dogs, because one of them was never seen again. ( )
