Personal response: The five senses are explored through the experiences of baby David. This book teaches the senses by describing them in ways infants and toddlers can relate to. Fans of gross-out humor will laugh at some of the situations (dirty diapers for smell, a popsicle dropped on the ground and covered with detritus for taste, etc) and the book ends with a peek-a-boo scene. The book seems tailor-made to give parents something to talk about while reading -- the child could be asked about what something would smell like, sound like, etc. Big, colorful, slightly scribbly illustrations set a mood of childish energy and enthusiasm. I will never recover from the visual image of the lollipop David almost eats off the ground in this book. (and I've seen my kid lick the floor at daycare!!!) That lollipop is so dirty it has a dead fly stuck to it. Two-year-olds are DISGUSTING! Also, David is ugly. I hope he looks cuter when he gets older. What?! That can happen sometimes! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
