Great read. sets up the story with some interesting insights into the history of the establishment of Israel and the issues experienced by their governments as they tried to protect themselves against the aggression of near neighbours. The story of how Israel managed to obtain the plans for the building of the Mirage jet fighter was fascinating. ( ) I first read this book on it's release. I have just read it again and although I am not really a James Follett fan, I think this is one of the best books I have ever read. It had me glued from cover to cover. Brilliant stuff based on a true story, how close it comes we will never know.. .. .. .. ETA: I got my latest copy from kindle. The by line of this book states "Unstoppable. Nerve-tauntening. And true", it should be noted that it is merely a fiction novel based on a true story, not an actual non-fiction novelisation of events. This being said however, it's a great read. Takes you back to the tumultuous 1960s when Israel was desperate for military hardware and the world turned their back. This story is about the Dassault Mirage 5 multi-role fighter aircraft and Israel's attempt to skirt French President Charles de Gaulle's embargo put in place after the 1967 Six Day War & held in place during the 1967-1970 Egypt-Israel war. It's one of James Follett's better novels and is quite enjoyable, enough subterfuge and subplots to keep it interesting without being cumbersome. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
