In two driving trips in New England I used the book, the first trip involved a distance 2,121.4 miles, so I feel as though I had ample opportunity to survey the material contained therein. One of the limitations of the work is that using a GPS unit is problematic since not all the points of interest have addresses which makes the book harder to use as a reliable driving guide. An updated version should include more actual addresses.
Portland (pp. 246-253) is reputedly "lively and engaging" (p. 246) but the city is actually quite shabby in places. During my second visit I discovered that the Somali Muslims do not follow local regulations and their building negatively impacts their neighbors. Nonetheless, during the Obama regime, the Federal government intervened on behalf of the Muslims so local conditions are declining.
Moose are said to "abound here" (p. 234) in Maine's North Woods but after 50 miles of searching, back and forth up the suggested roads, I did not spot even one moose.
