Wild America Listen Listen Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Distilling Iggy Pop's work down to 17 songs is nearly impossible. Anyone with an interest in Mr. Pop should first pick up the Stooges albums before exploring his later solo years. This collection, however, includes enough highlights to satisfy a casual fan. The Stooges are lightly covered with the essential punk anthem "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and the manic "Search and Destroy." The inclusion of the slinking "Sick of You" is a nice touch. Pop's pop leanings pop up with "Nightclubbing," "China Girl," and "Lust for Life," tracks in which the guitars are toned down a notch and Iggy exhibits a slightly more mellow side. Of course, he ultimately returns with a vengeance befitting one of rock's original wild men. --Rob O'Connor Product Description Japanese Release featuring an Exclusive Bonus Track. The others are from the 80s and 90s--including the Top 20 hit "Candy"(with B52's Kate Pierson). Of special note is Iggy's "China Girl" which was co-written with David Bowie. Iggy's version, in my opinion, is far superior to Bowie's (and it was a big hit for Bowie years after the song was written). It's almost impossible for me to pick a favourite song from this CD, but I think it has to be "Cry for love" (with "Real Wild Child" and "The Passenger" as close contenders). This CD is great value for the money--plus it gives fans of the Iguana an opportunity to hear the full spectrum--and unique qualities--of Iggy's talent--displacedhuman Was this review helpful to you? According to an interview given a few years ago, Pop stated that the omissions were due to restrictions the various record companies for which he has recorded placed on Virgin Records: Elektra allowed two songs off of either The Stooges or Fun House but not both; Columbia allowed two songs from Raw Power as long as it wasn't Search & Destroy AND Raw Power (by the way, the versions of Search & Destroy and Gimme Danger on Nude & Rude were taken from the original Bowie-produced Raw Power which I believe is now out of print); Arista would not participate whatsoever so anything from New Values, Soldier and Party was off limits. Given all the handcuffing, I think Virgin did a good job with this CD. Having Bomp! chip in with I'm Sick Of You and Kill City was a major coup, and wrapping things up with Wild America (excellent song) is a nice touch as the Ig comes full circle to the kind of music he started out with. This is a great place to start if you are unfamiliar with Pop's work. If you like what you hear here, proceed directly to Fun House. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
