In Waiting on God, Andrew Murray shares thirty-one heartfelt meditations, one for each day of the month, to help renew our vision and quicken our desire to turn to the Lord for His quiet, peaceful strength. Discover how God's loving presence can refresh the weary heart that learns to wait on Him.

Andrew Murray wrote in the introduction to this daily devotional book of one month’s readings, of the need that many Christians feel of being helped to a deeper and clearer insight into all that Christ could be to them. In this volume he shows both the need and the benefit of waiting upon God, and of giving God time and place to show us what He can do and what He will do. The author encourages us to enlarge our hearts and not limit God; to understand that God can do new things, unheard of things, and hidden things. “When Thou camest down, Thou didst terrible things we looked not for; the mountains flowed down at Thy presence.” (Summary by Christopher Smith)

Today, Murray is revered as a practical, knowledgeable churchman who placed reverence of the divine in the centre of his life. This is reflected in this book's style: the lessons are divided into days - it is by reading one of Murray's sermons per day that readers can absorb a daily dose of the spiritualism he imbued in his writings.

Alternatively readers may wish to treat the text as a single lengthy treatise upon the subject of God and faith, and proceed to study and digest the entire text at a quicker pace. Different permutations and manifestations of the Lord are discussed through the pages, with the nature of the divine and his actions in the Biblical canon examined thoughtfully by Pastor Murray.

A 31-day devotional which I read on my Kindle, initially while travelling. Thoughtful comments, based on different Bible verses, about the importance of taking time to 'wait on God'.

Someone dated in language, unsurprisingly as this was written over a century ago, but with much that's relevant to modern believers. My version was free to download at the time, but there are various other editions, mostly inexpensive.

Encouraging and also thought-provoking. ( )
