Disney has jumped on the Where's Waldo train with their Look and Find series. While these books are not as creative or interesting as the Waldo franchise (which has better writing, better illustrations, and harder puzzles), they offer puzzle solving practice for younger readers. This book has spreads that focus on some of Disney's famous princesses, from an undersea mermaid scene that is thronged with flippered inhabitants, to a messy cottage where Aurora's three fairies were unsuccessfully trying to create a birthday meal from scratch. Every puzzle and picture combination cover two pages of the book. The pictures are bright and cheery, and while the art is far from the excellence that Disney is capable of - the lovely cover art of the princesses bears no resemblance to the mediocre pictures comprising the book - young fans of Disney princesses probably won't even notice this.

The layout is the same for every book in this series. The majority of the two page spread is covered by a detailed illustration, with a particular theme to the page - in this case, Snow White's cottage or the dance ball that Cinderella attends, and other princess variations. Along the edge of one page is a sidebar, with a small paragraph that presents a minimal narrative, and a group of objects that are to be found in the corresponding illustration. Since this book is at a slightly higher level than the Early Look and Find books, the pages are paper and the illustrations are more densely crowded. The idea remains the same, however. My girls really do enjoy these books, and while they are not of high literary quality, they are good visual puzzles. ( )
